NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in the Honourable Mahatma Gandhi’s Birth Centenary Year 1969. Under Maharashtra University Health Sciences, Nashik; NSS was launched in the year 2012 in our Esteemed College.

National Service Scheme provides the students an opportunity to understand the community; identify its needs and problems as well as the solutions in which they can be involved by assuming social and civic responsibilities. This scheme also provides students with the opportunity to apply their education in finding practical solutions to the problems faced by the individuals and the community at large. Scheme aims at arousing social consciousness of the youth with an overall objective of personality development through community service. This scheme enables students to participate in various programmes of social service and national development, and to help the community.

This Scheme was officially launched on 24th September1969, on the birth centenary year of the Father of the Nation. Therefore, 24th September is celebrated every year as NSS Day with organizing various activities.

The aim of National service scheme is that involving academic community in social service activities and personality development of students through community service. The activities of National Service Scheme are broadly classified in to the two categories like regular activities & special camping activities or programme.

Volunteers who successfully complete Two years of regular activity (120 hrs. every year and participated in 07 days Special camp during these two years shall be awarded 10 additional marks.

  • Cleaning:- Creating awareness regarding Swacch Bharat Abhiyan
  • Stage shows or a procession creating Awareness of such issues as social problems, education and cleanliness.
  • Awareness rallies.
  • Conducting School Health Program.
  • Giving Health Education, with an aim to educate the community people.

Special camp Activity:-Under Special Camping programme, an eight days camp is conducted every year in the adopted villages/adopted area on specific themes. The main objectives of Scheme are to identify the requirements of the community and to encourage the youth to satisfy these requirements and to prepare the volunteers for their future role as sensitized, but self-confident community persons. Volunteers are always ready to accept the challenges for solving the community problems. The Scheme channelized its volunteer force to make all possible support to help the affected people in community. Program including cooking, staying together, cleanliness and keeping harmony.

Conclusion:-The National Service Scheme has a strong and effective programme media in the higher education system. It is providing the community education through student’s involvement in the various activities. Scheme provide the knowledge and information to student volunteers through various activities with active involvement and participation of the people from various communities. Scheme activities are helps to creating the healthy relationship of the student with community for the social development & consciousness. Many innovative programmes implemented by the scheme which provided plenty opportunities to student volunteers and community people to build valuable & constructive nation.
